Canes have historical use for discipline in many settings. Sir Canada stocks canes made of of traditional rattan as well as polycarbonate (semi-clear composite) or polyacrylic (black composite) materials.  Standard nominal diameters are 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". Most canes are supplied in 30" lengths.  All canes will break if too much force is used, if the cane is subjected to too much or too abrupt flexing or if scored or marked.

Simple rattan canes are sanded, finished in tung oil and re-sanded smooth for maximum flexibility and effect. Available in various diameters these 30" canes can also be finished with a rubberized handle. Rattan canes should be re-oiled or re-hydrated regularly otherwise they will become very brittle and mroe susceptible to breakage. Rattan will not splinter like wood or bamboo making them safer for use.

Both polycarbonate and polyacrylic canes have a high degree of flexibility (especially in the 1/4" size) with the polycarbonate canes being the more flexible of the two. These canes have a more consistent diameter and composition than natural rattan and the extremely smooth surface will produce wonderul effects.

Tawses
Canes

The tawse is a traditional strap-like implement made of thick leather with two or three separate "fingers"  at the "business" end and a solid handle at the other.  The handle may be flat, sculpted or laminated.  Lengths are normally 10-12" for a simple pocket tawse.  "School" tawses are normally longer (16-20" is common).  Tawses can also be made of thick rubber for an even more intense sensation.
